If you could live anywhere, where would it be? The beach? The mountains? The desert? While most of us don’t have the luxury of packing up all of our belongings and starting somewhere new, one perk of being a medical sales professional is knowing that you could likely find a job anywhere in the country. It doesn’t matter where the latest drug or device is developed, the company will need reps all over the country to get its products to market.
Of course, the need for medical sales reps still varies from city to city. Medical sales professionals living near major metropolitan areas will have more opportunities available to them, obviously, but which areas of the country have the greatest need for reps?
To find out, MedReps.com recently looked at the number of jobs posted in each city to find out which parts of the country have the highest numbers of open medical sales jobs. The city with the most medical sales jobs? New York City. Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and San Francisco rounded out the top 5. A complete list of the top 10 cities is below.

While New York topped the list of cities with the most medical sales jobs, it also fell high on the list of cities with the most medical sales job seekers. However, the job count outnumbered the job seekers, making the odds of finding a job in the Big Apple pretty good. Dallas, which topped the list of cities with the most medical sales job seekers, had 50% more job seekers than jobs. A list of cities with the most job seekers is below.

So where is the best place to find a medical sales job?
To find out where a medical sales job seeker has the best odds of landing a job, MedReps calculated the job-to-candidate ratio by dividing the number of available medical sales jobs in New York, for example, with the number of medical sales job seekers in the same area. Anything over 1 means that the number of available jobs is greater than the number of job seekers. So, the higher the number, the better the odds are for the job seeker. To continue with the New York example, the ratio for New York is 1.6. So the odds of finding a medical sales job in New York city are good– but not as good as in San Francisco (1.85).
Before you pack your bags and set out for San Francisco or NYC, you may want to check the cost of living there. Your impressive medical sales salary won’t go nearly as far in these cities as it will in say, Dallas or Atlanta. There’s a lot to consider when thinking about the best cities for medical sales jobs, and this infographic explores several important factors. Take a look and let us know which cities you think are the best for medical sales jobs.
