Career Tip of the Day

Daily Career Advice from the News SharkSubscribe today for jobs, breaking medical news and career advice from top medical recruiters.

Set Up a LinkedIn profile.

It’s not mandatory for every one to have a LinkedIn presence as a professional, but it can be a very useful tool. Your resumé is obviously the most necessary piece of your professional self promotion, so make sure it’s done correctly. Recruiting and hiring managers almost always check your profile right after reading your resumé. It’s just an automatic next step. Make sure you have a professional picture. No need to go to a photographer for a head shot. Just have someone take your picture  against a blank wall from about 6 feet away, from your chest/torso up. Make sure you wear business attire and a smile. List your titles, companies and dates, along with call points and awards. College and certification are necessary, and volunteer activities/sports are good to add as well. Consider adding, near the bottom, your phone and/or email – make it easy for people to reach you.
